STEP SeaTac Expansion Project – South Terminal, SeaTac Airport, Seattle, WA
NBBJ Architects

Within the new SeaTac Airport concourse, these glass walls create a luminous hearth. The glowing transparency of the walls reveals a story of mythic proportion, a story rooted in the world of the Pacific Northwest. The composition uses cross sections of old-growth trees embedded into amber layers of glass. These trees grew to more than ten feet in diameter, making them wider than the walls of glass are tall. Over 350 ft. long and 10 ft. tall, the walls are located on the concourse level, creating something of a glass corral for all international travelers to pass through to their destination.
